UEFA rigged Team of the Year 2019 to include Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo: UEFA rigged the formation of their Team of the Year to make sure Cristiano Ronaldo was a part of it, according to ESPN. They report that the Juventus star was not in the initial XI with the 4-3-3 formation.

Lionel Messi (RW), Roberto Lewandowski (ST) and Sadio Mane (LW) were set to be the forwards. Their sources revealed that UEFA chiefs switched the formation to 4-2-4 so that Ronaldo can be added alongside Lewandowski.

Ronaldo’s inclusion came at the expense of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman was taken out of the starting with Kevin De Bruyne and Frenkie De Jong being the two midfielders in the XI.

Ronaldo did not enjoy a great year and was not at his best. He finished with 6 goals in the Champions League – joint 3rd with Sergio Aguero, Moussa Marega and Dusan Tadic.

Lionel Messi was the top scorer with double the amount of goals while Robert Lewandowski came 2nd with 8 goals in the Champions League.

UEFA Team of the year 2019: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, De Ligt, Van Dijk, Robertson; De Jong, De Bruyne; Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Mane.
