Borussia Dortmund agree €20 million deal to sell midfielder to Benfica

BVB News: Borussia Dortmund have announced that Julian Weigl has been sold to Benfica. Reports suggest that the fee is around €20 million for the German midfielder.

Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc has revealed that Weigl requested the move and the Bundesliga side obliged. “Julian came to us with this wish and we agreed – also because of his services to the club. We wish him all the best for his future,” said Zorc.

The 24-year-old midfielder spoke to Dortmund’s website after the move was finalized and said: “I would like to thank my team-mates, BVB employees and all fans of this great club for a great time, and I will always carry Borussia Dortmund in my heart.”

Weigl started 12 games this season for BVB in Bundesliga. The Black and yellow side are 7 points off the top of the table right now and have just signed Erling Haaland to help them climb up the table.

Benfica, meanwhile, are on top of their league table and will be playing in the Europa League in February. They face Shakhtar Donetsk after dropping down from the Champions League.
