“It was a terrible decision” – Rio Ferdinand names the biggest transfer mistake by Manchester United in last 10 years
Rio Ferdinand has slammed Manchester United for not signing Harry Kane. He believes that the Tottenham striker could have been signed for the right amount.
Rio Ferdinand has labeled Manchester United’s failure to sign Harry Kane as the biggest mistake made by the club in the last decade.
He claimed that the striker, along with Arsenal star Declan Rice, could have been signed before they became the players they are today.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said that Manchester United would have been in a much better situation if they had signed Kane and said:
“Thatโs the biggest mistake theyโve made in the last ten years. โIf they paid the number Spurs wanted, they would have got him. Itโs weird to think that it didnโt happen because of a couple of million here and there, it was a terrible decision.”
“I honestly think and Iโm convinced that if Man United would have got Harry Kane and Declan Rice in that window, theyโre in a different place now. It goes back to the environment, those two drive an environment I think because theyโre two top pros.”
Harry Kane left Tottenham in 2023 for Bayern Munich for a reported ยฃ86 million deal. He has a ยฃ54 million release clause in his contract that can be activated in January 2026.
