West Ham United have confirmed that Jack Wilshere will be out of action for several weeks. The former Arsenal midfielder has undergone a surgery and a will begin rehab in some time.

The Hammers have revealed that it is a minor surgery on his ankle injury. The operation took place in London on Monday evening.

“Jack underwent successful surgery in London on Monday morning for a minor ongoing ankle issue, the surgeon was happy with the procedure and all went as planned.” said the head of medical, Richard Collinge.

“We envisage he will only need a relatively short period of rest and will then start his rehabilitation. Jack is focused and determined to get back training and playing as soon as possible.”

Wilshere joined West Ham in the summer after his release from Arsenal. His contract expires at the end of the 2017/18 season and he rejected the offer the Gunners put on the table.

The Englishman confirmed that he spoke with the new manager, Unai Emery before deciding not to sign the new deal. He claimed that he was not happy with the role he was offered by the former PSG manager and decided that he wanted to join a club where he can play regularly.

Wilshere started the first 4 Premier League games this season and played full 90 minutes in the first three. He came off in the 64th minute vs Wolverhampton and was ruled out of the game vs Everton.
