Wenger wanted former Chelsea boss as his replacement at Arsenal

Arsenal had a big decision to make in the summer and it was picking the ideal replacement for Arsene Wenger. The Gunners opted for Unai Emery i the end but reports now suggest that the Spaniard was not Wenger’s choice.

Rai journalist, Ciro Venerato was on TV Luna’s ‘Goal Show’ when he revealed the inside information about Wenger’s choice. He claims that the Legendary Arsenal manager wanted ex Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti to be his replacement at the Emirates.

“Arsenal-Napoli? I’ll tell you a behind-the scenes story dating back to last summer when Arsene Wenger indicated Carlo Ancelotti as his possible heir and successor on the Arsenal bench.”


“Carlo Ancelotti, as you know, has a Canadian wife and the whole family lives in London. So he was interested… Arsenal then chose Unai Emery and at that point Carlo Ancelotti signed for Napoli, but he did not forget that Arsenal rejected him.”

Ancelotti would have been a brilliant choice and there have been a lot of rumours of Arsenal chasing the former Chelsea manager.
