Simon Mignolet set to leave Liverpool

Simon Mignolet has landed in Belgium and is set to sign for Club Brugge, according to Kristof Terreur. The Liverpool goalkeeper has been keen on leaving the club and has now decided to return to his home country. He will be joining on a permanent deal and sign a 5-year contract.

The goalkeeper has been looking to leave for over a year now as he been made the club’s second-choice keeper. The decision was made when Klopp handed the starting spot to Lloris Karius and the signing of Alisson Becker reportedly sealed the decision.

However, Liverpool were not willing to let go of him as Karius had moved to Besiktas on loan. The German is still at the Turkish side and will be spending another season there on loan.

The former Sunderland star’s agent had confirmed that the keeper was keen on leaving this summer. 2 weeks ago, the agent said: “It’s important for Simon to play somewhere, and our goal is still to make him leave. He’s still got a lot to offer, and if we have an offer, we’re counting on Liverpool making an effort.”

Jurgen Klopp was not willing to let him leave as he waned him to remain as the backup keeper. He said, “I’ve had a lot of conversations with him in the last couple of years. Not weeks but months, before we left (for the summer break) we had a talk. Will he stay? I would say yes.”

Club Brugge are currently on top of the league table after 2 games. They will be playing in the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifications on Tuesday against Dynamo Kyiv.
