Ronald Koeman facing Barcelona sack already

Ronald Koeman was officially appointed as the new Barcelona manager today. He has put pen to a 2-year deal but his time at Camp Nou might not last that long.

Barcelona presidential candidate, Victor Font has said that he will sack Ronald Koeman if elected. Font wants to bring Xavi to the helm before the start of the next season and he confirmed it on El Larguero last night. He said:

“Even if Koeman has a great season, I will not change my plans. If I become president, Koeman will not be the coach of Barca in the 2021-22 season.”

“Xavi understands that all the puzzles in the club must be put together. Who will lead the team will be decided by the Board of Directors, in our case, it will be him [Xavi].”

“Messi is completely disappointed because of the critical situation at the club both in sports and in economic and organisational terms. I expect that Messi will play under Xavi in 2021.”

Xavi was a target for Josep Maria Bartomeu as well but the Al-Sadd managed rejected the chance twice. he was contacted before the appointment of Quique Setien and also after his sacking.

Barcelona’s presidential elections take place in Mach 2021 and Bartomeu is highly unlikely to win it again.
