Real Madrid are set to appoint Santiago Solari as their manager until the end of the season. Marca and ESPN are reporting that the Spanish giants have submitted the papers to RFEF to hire the interim manager on a permanent basis.

Solari was appointed as the interim manager after Julen Lopetegui was fired following a poor start to the season. The former Spain manager’s career at Bernabeu was hanging by a thread but the 5-1 loss at Barcelona was the final nail in the coffin.

Santiago has managed 4 matches for Madrid so far and won all of them. Los Blancos have playedย Melilla, Real Valladolid, Viktoria Plzen and Celta Vigo so far and will be up againstย  Eibar, AS Roma, Valencia and Melilla (again) in the upcoming weeks.

Madrid’s initial plan was to have Solari as the interim manager before getting Antonio Conte on a permanent basis. However, the former Chelsea manager has ruled out himself out of the running and claimed that he will start working on his next project in June.

โ€œReal Madrid? As I see it, it is better to wait until the end of the season than to take a train running now. I want to wait for June and start again with a new project. In three months I could change my mind and deny everything, but I’ve always thought of it this way.โ€
