Chelsea have confirmed that N’Golo Kante has signed a new five-year contract at the club. With the new contract, the Frenchman is set to stay at the club until 2023.

The France international has been a vital player in the club’s starting XI ever since he joined from Leicester City in 2016 for a reported fee of £30 million.

Reports suggest that the new contract is worth £290,000 per week – making him the club’s highest paid player ever.

“I’m happy to extend my time with Chelsea, it has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come. Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about. I like the city, I like the club and I am happy to be here for more time,” the 27-year-old told Chelsea’s official website.

Kante’s role at the club has changed from a proper CDM to a box-to-box midfielder but he has done tremendously to adapt to the new role. Manager, Maurizio Sarri himself has heaped praise on the 27-year-old and said that he can be played at any position in the midfield.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and even Barcelona were linked with a move for Kante in the summer but the Frenchman made it clear that he wanted to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Kante is the 3rd Chelsea first team player to sign a new deal this season. Pedro was the first one and he was followed by left-back, Marcos Alonso.
