Newcastle United manager provides update on Alexander Isak as Liverpool keep tabs

Eddie Howe wants Alexander Isak to stay at Newcastle United amid interest from Liverpool and the Saudi Pro League.

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Newcastle United are not in contract negotiations with Alexander Isak. He admitted talks are happening behind the scenes, and they are unwilling to make it public.

The Magpies manager added that he is also in direct talks with the striker as he aims to keep the Liverpool target at the club. He said:

โ€œHeโ€™s very popular in the dressing room. Weโ€™d love him to continue his journey at Newcastle. Things are going on behind the scenes. Conversations are happening between Alex, myself and the club. They will stay private. Whatever happens has to be for the best of the club.”

โ€œThere are no contract talks taking place. That will be for a later date, potentially. I certainly hope he stays. In football, who knows what the future may bring?โ€

Isak is a target for Liverpool, who made an approach earlier this month and offered to break the Premier League record to sign the striker. The Reds have already broken the record once this summer with the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for ยฃ116 million.

The Newcastle United star sat out the 4-0 loss to Celtic earlier this month and has not joined the Magpies on their pre-season tour of Singapore, where they face Arsenal.

Al Ettifaq and Al Hilal are also reportedly interested in signing Isak this summer.
