Manchester United identify Romelu Lukaku’s replacement

Manchester United have reportedly identified Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has been heavily linked with an exit from Old Trafford and it seems like the Red Devils have made contingency plans.

It is no secret that Lukaku wants to leave United and his preferred destination is Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri have already seen two bids rejected for him, leading to more frustration for Antonio Conte.

For Inter, time is running out as United have already given them a deadline to seal Lukaku’s switch to San Siro.

At, the same time Inter have to sell their players as well to manage the financial fair play rules. But the sales of players like Nainggolan and Icardi has proved to be difficult.

The biggest source of frustration in Inter’s pursuit for Lukaku has been United ยฃ75 million evaluation of the former Chelsea striker. United want to recoup the full money they paid for Lukaku’s services to Everton in 2017.

While for United it seems like a win-win situation. The Red Devils will allow Lukaku to leave if Inter sign him before their deadline and meet their asking price, otherwise not. If Inter are unable to do so, they could very use a proven goalscorer.

In case they are able to do so, they should have sufficient money to persuade Lyon to let go of the former Celtic striker. The Frenchman is 23 years old and an out and out No.9. Last season he scored 23 goals for Lyon as well.

Rumour Checker: 6/10

While United do have Marcus Rashford to lead the attack if Lukaku leaves, they will need another experienced backup as Greenwood is too young for the Premier League right now.
