Manchester City had a stunning bid rejected for Chelsea legend

When the takeover happened at Manchester City, the transfer budget was truly unlimited. The Cityzens had approached Ronaldinho, Gigi Buffon and other big names in the footballing world at that time and that included a Chelsea legend too.

John Terry has revealed that the Blues of Manchester had made an official bid for him in 2009. The defender claims that it was the 2nd ever bid for him after Huddersfield Town tried to sign him when he was 19-years-old.

Talking on an Instagram Q&A with Stephen Hendry, the Chelsea legend claims that he sat down with Roman Abramovich and made it clear that he wanted to stay.

Terry also went on to reveal that he shook hands on a new contract as well at that time and the rest is history.

ManCity approached Chelsea and made an official offer. Simple as this, I sat with the owner, face-to-face and said “I never want to leave Chelsea, that’s a fact. If you want to sell me then it’s a different story, I clearly don’t want to stay. But I’m telling you off the bat that I never want to leave this football club”.

‘Within that, I was due a new contract, we shook hands on a new contract, agreed a deal and I stayed another five, six years after that.

Terry stayed at Chelsea until 2017 but was unable to end his career at Stamford Bridge. He moved to Aston Villa after his release and he is now an assistant manager at Villa Park.
