Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred is set to sign for either Manchester City or Manchester United according to the Ukrainian club’s chief executive, Sergei Palkin. He was speaking to Corriere dello Sport when he confirmed the news.

City were interested in signing him during the January transfer window but the move was rebuffed by the Ukrainian side. They wanted to keep him at the club until the end of this season.

Reports in January claimed that Fred was available for €50 million. Shakhtar now expect a bidding war between the two Manchester sides.

“Fred will leave in July. If he does not go to Manchester City, he will go to Manchester United.”

“Fred is ready to play in the strongest league [in Europe]. He is not only a very good player but also a very good professional.” added the Shakhtar CEO.

Palkin went to say that he wanted Fred to stay at the club for another season but that’s not likely right now. “I would like him to have one more year in our team, but he is ready for a stronger league, he said.

ESPN sources claim that Manchester City are ready to end their interest in the Brazilian.
