“There are a lot of similarities” – Liverpool star compared to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard

Jermaine Pennant has compared new Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.

Jermaine Pennant has claimed Wirtz likes to dribble and jinx past players like Hazard and can score with both feet. The former Liverpool star added that the German cannot be compared to Kevin de Bruyne, as the Manchester City star’s passing IQ was on another level.

He was talking to Adventure Gamers when he said:

“If I had to compare Florian Wirtz to a past Premier League player stylistically, then I’m thinking someone like Eden Hazard. If you think back to the players the league has had in the past, then Hazard sticks out as someone who plays like him. The way he wants to dribble and jinx past players his through balls, the way he can score with his left and right foot – there are a lot of similarities.”

“If you look at someone like Kevin De Bruyne, he was a different kind of player to Wirtz – he was more of a visionary with great IQ passing and long-range shooting. I therefore think if there’s one player Wirtz reminds me of, it’s Hazard.”

Liverpool signed Wirtz this summer for a Premier League record £116 million. Bayer Leverkusen were reluctant to sell for anything less, amid interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

The fee is £1 million more than what Chelsea agreed to pay for Moises Caicedo in 2023.
