La Liga players arrested for match-fixing

According to reports in Spain, several Real Valladolid have been arrested after Match-Fixing allegations were filed against them. Reports suggest that they agreed to lose their final match of the season to Valencia in order to help the former finish 4th in the table.

Valencia and Getafe went into the final gameweek level on points. Both sides knew they had to win to have any chance of playing in the Champions League next season and Valencia held the advantage on head-to-head rule.

Valladolid, who were 16th in the table had secured another season in the top flight were hosting Valencia in the final match. The game ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors with the hosts misfiring several shots.

The 16th placed side had 19 shots at goal but only 4 of them were on target while Valencia, who had 6 of their 9 shots goals, scored twice. While this is normal in football these days, suspicion grew because of the ‘silly errors’ made by Valladolid that led to the goals.

Police have now arrested a few Valladolid players but they aren’t the only ones in custody. Several other players from La Liga Santander and La Liga 123 are also reportedly being questioned.

El Pais report that 11 people have been arrested for alleged match fixing in Spain, including the president of SD Huesca!
