Huddersfield Town sack Jan Siewert

Huddersfield Town have sacked Jan Siewert following a poor start to their season in the Championship. The Terriers have lost 2 and drawn one of their 3 games in the 2nd tier of English football so far. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup as well by League 1 side, Lincoln City.

The manager was appointed in January 2019 following the sacking of David Wagner. However, he was unable to save the club pre relegation from the Premier League.

Moreover, the manager has secured just one win in seven months at the helm. The lone win came against Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 2019.

Amid reports that the board were planning to sack the manager if they fail to win against Fulham, Siewert was asked in the pre-Fulham presser if he thinks he will be sacked. He said:

โ€œNot at all. Not at all. A few days ago I spoke with the chairman about things, & we are on the same page. Chairman has made it quite clear – we have to stabilise in the Championship. This is the big thing.โ€

Huddersfield had a very good pre-season with 4 wins and 2 draws in their six matches. But they could not replicate the form in the Championship and lost to Derby County on the opening day, drew at QPR and lost to Fulham on Friday.
