Sources: Edouard Mendy close to leaving Chelsea

Edouard Mendy is set to be one of the players leaving Chelsea in the summer, as things stand. The Senegal star has been injured this season, and Kepa has again taken over the #1 spot.

Sources have told Nitwik Sports that Chelsea’s clearout could begin with an exit for one of their goalkeeper. Kepa still has 2 years left on his deal, while Mendy will be entering the final year in the summer.

No contract talks have taken place with the Senegal star, hinting that the club will be looking to move him when the transfer window opens. Moreover, the club have extended the contract of 3rd choice Marcus Bettinelli.

Gabriel Slonina is seen as the one to take over the #1 spot at Chelsea, but the goalkeeper might not be at the club next season. MLS clubs showed interest in the winter transfer window, but the Blues wanted to keep him as they had just got him back from the loan at Chicago Fire.

Edouard Mendy seems like the player who has one foot out of the club with no contract talks and Graham Potter prefers Kepa as his #1 when both keepers are fit. The Senegal star helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League and also won the FIFA The Best Goalkeeper of the Year award.

AC Milan are said to be having a concrete interest in Mendy, with the future of Mike Maignan in the balance. The former Lille goalkeeper has interest from several clubs, including Chelsea, and could be leaving San Siro in the summer.

However, Edouard Mendy does have a slight chance of remaining in the Premier League next season. An unnamed club has shown interest in the goalkeeper, but a lot could depend on the fee Chelsea demand and the goalkeeper’s other options.
