Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger complains of racist behaviour by Tottenham fans
Antonio Rudiger was seen gesturing that he was the subject of racist behaviour from Tottenham fans during Chelsea’s game in the Premier League on Sunday. The incident happened minutes after Heung-Min Son was sent off by the referee.
The German defender was seen on the pitch complaining to the referee and Cesar Azpilicueta. The Chelsea captain immediately informed the official and the message was conveyed to the 4th official and both managers as well.
The video in the above tweet shows Rudiger suggesting that he heard monkey sounds by the Spurs fans from the corner side. It is possible that the defender’s exaggeration that lead to Son’s sending off was the reason for some Spurs ‘fans’ stooping so low.
Tottenham were forced to make multiple announcements stating Racist behaviour was interfering with the game. “Racist behaviour from spectators is interfering with the game” were the words of the stadium announcer.
This is sadly not the first time Rudiger has been the target for racists. AS Roma were charged by UEFA after racist chants by their fans in 2017.
Back in 2015, when Rudiger was at AS Roma, Stefano Eranio fired from Swiss TV for racist comments about the defender.
