Chelsea terminate midfielder’s contract by mutual consent

Ross Barkley has left Chelsea after terminating his contract with the club. The Englishman is now a free agent and can join any side this summer for free.

Chelsea have announced that they have parted ways with Barkley after 3.5 seasons on their books. The midfielder joined in January 2018 for a reported £15 million fee.

Barkley has played exactly 100 matches for the Blues, scoring 12 times and assisting 11 goals. The stoppage-time equalizer against Manchester United in his first full season remains his best goal for the club.

The 28-year-old leaves the club with an FA Cup medal, the UEFA Europa League title, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was on loan at Aston Villa when the Blues lifted the Champions League title.

Barkley was training with the development side this season after Thomas Tuchel decided not to hand him a shirt number. Ben Jacobs reports the midfielder has interest from Rangers and Celtic, while Premier League clubs are also considering a move.
