Saudi Pro League sides keen on signing surprise Chelsea star – Reports

Alfie Gilchrist is reportedly set to leave Chelsea this summer. The Englishman has interest from the Saudi Pro League, while several English clubs are also keeping tabs.

Chelsea are ready to sell Aflie Gilchrist this summer after his loan spell at Sheffield United. The defender did well under Mauricio Pochettino, but was loaned out to the Championship side after Enzo Maresca took over.

The youngster played 30 matches in the Championship for the Blades and also made one appearance off the bench in the Carabao Cup. His side failed ot gain promotion back to the Premier League after finishing 3rd and losing the playoff final to Sunderland.

The Blues have enough defenders in their squad, and do not see Gilchrist breaking through. They are ready to let the 21-year-old leave, and any sale will count as pure profit in PSR calculations.

Middlesbrough were the first to contact Chelsea, but are yet to make a bid. Saudi Pro League sides are also interested, per Ben Jacobs, while several Championship sides are also keeping tabs.

Sources have told The Sportzine that Everton were among the suitors last summer, while Brentford were also in the mix. However, both Premier League sides have not made a move this summer so far but could come in with a late bid once clubs start talks over fees.

Gilchrist is in the final 12 months of his contract, which he signed in 2023. He is unlikely to be offered a new deal, unless Chelsea add a clause like they did in Kepa Arrizabalaga last summer, when he penned a one-year contract with a ยฃ5 million release clause.
