Chelsea set to offer contract extension to defender
Chelsea have not had the best of starts to the Premier League season but the signs are positive for them. Frank Lampard’s men have been decent in all games so far but the results have just not gone their way.
A few players have stood out in the games so far and the Blues are already handing out new contracts and extensions to them. According to reports in Italy, Emerson Palmieri is set to be handed a new contract.
The Italian’s current deal expires only in 2022 but Lampard wants to seal his place in the squad for a long time. Chelsea want to add another year to his current deal and increase his wages to €5M a year as per the report.
The left-back looks to have sealed his place as the club’s #1 in that spot ahead of Marcos Alonso, who was preferred by Lampard’s predecessors.

Emerson was signed by Antonio Conte in his 2nd season at the club as a backup for Alonso. Sarri also used him as a backup but now, the Lampard has preferred him over the Spaniard.
Despite offering an extension to Emerson, Chelsea are still on the hunt for a new left-back. Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is the top target right now and he is likely to be signed as Alonso’s replacement next summer.
Rumour Checker: 8/10
Emerson has done well for Chelsea so far this season and has been impressive ever since he joined them. The Italian is happy at the club and despite being linked with a move back to Italy with Juventus, he stayed put at Stamford Bridge.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira is a reliable source and the Blues have been extending deals of their top players this season.
