Barcelona are on the lookouts for a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez and have set sights on Maxi Gomez. Onda Cero’s Alfredo Martรญnez reports that the Catalan side are ready to activate his โ‚ฌ50m release clause.

The Celta Vigo striker has been in good nick this season for the Spanish side. He has scored 9 goals and assisted 5 in his 23 appearances in LaLiga so far.

Martรญnez also claims that Barcelona are confident that Celta Vigo will let go of the striker for a cheaper price if they get relegated. Cรฉlticos’ are currently 17th in the league โ€“ just 2 points above Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano.

Luka Jovic was reportedly their main target but with his release clause at Benfica at โ‚ฌ65 million. Moreover, Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly set to sign him in the summer and demand more to let go of him.

Adding to that, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also interested in signing while Bayern Munich have also kept tabs on him. Barcelona are not willing to get into a bidding war for him and have decided to look elsewhere.

Maxi Gomez also is in demand with Liverpool and West Ham United keeping an eye out for him. The Hammers reportedly activated his release clause in the January transfer window but the striker refused to leave the Spanish side until the season ended.

Alfredo Martรญnez is a reliable source and has broken quite a few Barcelona rumours in the past. Given the circumstances, it would not be a surprise if the Catalan side actually sign him in the summer.
