Ole Gunnar Solskjær has confirmed that Antonio Valencia is set to leave Manchester United in the summer. The former Wigan star’s contract at the club expires at the end of the season.

Valencia was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Wigan in 2009 for a reported fee of £16 million. He has won 2 Premier League titles, 2 League Cups, 1 FA Cup, and 1 Europa League during his 10 years stay at Old Trafford.

Manchester United do have an option to trigger the option year in his contract. It looks like they are not going to do it as the Red Devils are slowly planning for the future.

In his pre-Southampton press conference, Solskjær said, “I’m not sure if Manchester United and Antonio will agree on next year. It depends if he gets back on the pitch in [the] next few months.”

“It (new contract) depends if he (Valencia) gets back on the pitch in the next few months but he’s the captain, great servant to the club so hopefully I can get him on the pitch and show what he can do.” added the interim manager.
